Everything that is new and improved on the 2024 Toyota Tacoma

The brand-new 2024 Toyota Tacoma is here, and it is better than ever. Introduced today, the new 2024 Tacoma offers, in a nutshell:

  1. More powerful and efficient powertrains
  2. Improved automatic gearbox and the return of the manual transmission
  3. New suspension tuning adapted to every version
  4. New chassis and platform with improved rigidity
  5. Enhanced off-road capability
  6. Improved towing technology and more payload
  7. New body configurations designed around the needs of different customers
  8. Brand-new Trailhunter version that stands out in every way
  9. Enhanced connectivity technology
  10. Improved safety and driver assistance features

Let's take a look at each of these elements and how they make the 2024 Toyota Tacoma one of the most anticipated new models coming this year.

Improved powertrain lineup

The 2024 Toyota Tacoma will come standard with a new 2.4-litre turbocharged four-cylinder powertrain. This impressive new turbo delivers 278 hp and 317 pound-feet of torque. The other available engine is the impressive I-FORCE MAX hybrid, which is nothing short of the most powerful engine not just in the segment but ever offered on the Tacoma.

The available 2024 Toyota Tacoma with the I-FORCE MAX hybrid delivers a remarkable 326 hp and 465 pound-feet of torque. These exceptional performance numbers are achieved through the pairing of a 2.4-litre engine, 48 hp electric motor, and 1.87 kWh battery.

There is no need to plug in the Tacoma with the I-FORCE MAX hybrid, nor is there a need to change the way you drive. You are not sacrificing performance either. You're simply enjoying one of the most powerful and efficient engines ever put in a midsize truck.

New eight-speed gearbox and available manual transmission

The new 2024 Toyota Tacoma will feature a brand-new eight-speed automatic gearbox, as well as an available six-speed manual transmission. The eight-speed automatic has been improved to provide better shifting points and enhanced efficiency. As for the six-speed intelligent manual gearbox, it offers automatic rev-matching and anti-stall technology for the purest form of do-it-yourself driving.

New chassis and platform

The new Tacoma is built on the Toyota TNGA-F global truck platform, shared with the Tundra and Sequoia. The new platform pairs high-strength steel with blanking and laser welds used throughout the chassis to increase rigidity compared to the previous generation. The new Tacoma also features quite a bit of aluminum in its construction to ensure the perfect balance of rigidity and lightweight agility. A new multi-link rear suspension system replaces leaf springs with coils.

Multiple suspension tuning settings depending on the model

The brand-new 2024 Toyota Tacoma will feature multiple suspension tunes depending on the model. TRD Sport models get sport-tuned shocks that are painted in red, while TRD Off-Road models feature monotube Bilstein remote reservoir shocks that provide more wheel travel and dissipate heat better. There's also an end-stop control valve to provide increased damping force as the suspension comes closer to full compression.

The TRD Pro model comes with FOX QS3 3-way adjustable internal bypass shocks with remote reservoirs that ensure optimal high-speed performance. These shocks are paired with the FOX internal floating piston rear bump stop to provide better bottom-up feel. The new Trailhunter model features the Old Man Emu suspension system designed by ARB and tuned for enhanced control and load-carrying capability. As for the Limited-grade models, they feature a new adaptive variable suspension system that constantly adjusts damping forces based on changing road conditions.

Improved Towing and Payload Capability

The brand-new 2024 Toyota Tacoma boasts improved towing and payload capabilities. It can tow up to 6,500 pounds, while the maximum payload has been increased to 1,709 pounds. These enhancements are made possible by a new trailer brake controller system, trailer backup guide, and digital display mirror. Additionally, the Tacoma offers trailer backup guidance and a 360° camera option that provides a top-down view to enhance overall visibility. Moreover, the blind spot monitoring system takes the trailer into account when notifying the driver of potential vehicles in the blind spot.

Enhanced Off-Road Capability and Performance

The 2024 Toyota Tacoma is equipped with multiple new technologies that enhance its off-road capability. One notable feature is the new front stabilizer bar disconnect system, which allows for increased front and rear flex at the push of a button. This results in a 10% improvement in the Tacoma's articulation compared to the previous model.

The new Tacoma also boasts improved angles, including up to a 33.8° approach angle, a 23.5° breakover angle, and a 25.7° departure angle on the TRD Pro variant. With a running ground clearance of 11.1 inches, the Tacoma is ready to tackle rough terrains. The Tacoma, TRD Off-Road, TRD Pro, and Trailhunter models feature a 14-inch center display with a multi-view monitor and underbody camera views.

The multi-terrain select system, which can now be used in conjunction with 4WD-High and 4WD-Low, offers adjustable settings to help control wheelspin in mud, dirt, and sand situations. Additionally, a new quieter crawl control function allows for low-speed, off-road cruising, enabling the driver to focus on handling and steering while maintaining a set speed across five available options.

Enhanced Functionality for Every 2024 Toyota Tacoma

The 2024 Toyota Tacoma comes in two configurations: one with a 5-foot bed and another with a 6-foot bed. It offers a four-door double cab, as well as a new extended cab model. The extended cab features seating for two and is paired with a 6-foot bed. It also includes a practical and functional rear-seat storage area that can accommodate shovels and fishing poles. The 6-foot bed has been enhanced to provide more carrying capability, with a 7% improvement in overall storage.

Brand-New 2024 Trailhunter Version

The 2024 Toyota Tacoma introduces the brand-new Trailhunter version. This model is the result of a collaboration with the Australian-based company ARB. It features specially developed Old Man Emu position-sensitive 2.5-inch monotube shocks with rear external piggyback-style remote reservoirs, a steel rear bumper, rear recovery points, and a bed utility bar with removable MOLLE panels.

The Trailhunter model is equipped with 33-inch Goodyear Territory RT tires, which provide an additional 2 inches of ground clearance in the front and 1.5 inches in the back. It also includes a high-mount air intake that is routed up the passenger-side air pillar and feeds the I-FORCE MAX hybrid powertrain. Additional protection features include rock rails and hot-stamped high-strength steel skid plates. To complement its design, the Trailhunter model incorporates a 20-inch LED light bar and a bronze-colored Toyota Heritage Grill.

More Connectivity Features Than Ever

The 2024 Toyota Tacoma offers an array of connectivity features, surpassing its predecessors. It introduces the new Toyota multimedia system, which includes a 12.3-inch digital gauge cluster with four different designs. You can choose between an 8-inch or 14-inch center display for the infotainment system. The new infotainment system also incorporates Toyota's advanced voice command capability. Additionally, the Tacoma provides various remote access features through Toyota Remote Connect.

Every 2024 Tacoma comes equipped with a smart key system and push-button start. With active remote connect digital key accessibility, you can unlock the doors, start the engine, or even open the tailgate using your mobile phone. You can also grant access to the Tacoma to someone else through your mobile phone. Lastly, the 2024 Tacoma introduces a brand-new smart card key system, shaped like a credit card, which serves as an alternative to the traditional key.

Other notable features of the Tacoma include the new JBL Flex portable speaker, which can be placed outside and used for up to six hours.
