A Range of Powertrain Options for the 2022 Toyota Corolla
The new Toyota Corolla hasn't changed much for 2022, and that's okay. Buyers will find everything that has made the Toyota Corolla great since it launched on the market and since the current generation was introduced a few years ago. The new 2022 Toyota Corolla is powered out of the gate by a 1.8 L four-cylinder engine that delivers 139 horsepower along with 126 pound-feet of torque. This is one of the most fuel-efficient engines in the segment with an average of just 7.9 litres per 100 km in the city, and 6.8 litres per 100km on the highway. This engine is available with either a six-speed manual gearbox, or a continuously variable automatic.
The new 2022 Toyota Corolla can also be offered with a more powerful 2 L 4 cylinder engine which offers 169 horsepower along with 151 pound-feet of torque. This engine is quite a bit more powerful than what we find in a Honda Civic, a Mazda3, a Hyundai Elantra, or a Nissan Sentra. It is also more fuel efficient with an average of 7.7 litres per 100 km in the city, and 6.1 L per 100 km on the highway.
Speaking of fuel economy, the 2022 Toyota Corolla is one of the few models in its class to be offered with a hybrid Powertrain. This hybrid engine offers a total output of 121 km, but also a fuel economy rating of just 4.4 litres per 100km in the city.
