Shopping for an electric SUV in Ontario means balancing range, space, technology, and winter capability. The 2026 Toyota bZ lineup delivers on all four, with five distinct trims spanning efficient commuter to rugged adventure vehicle.
The 2026 Toyota bZ is a five-passenger electric SUV built on Toyota's dedicated e-TNGA platform. Available in five trims - XLE (FWD), XLE AWD, Limited AWD, Woodland, and Woodland Premium - power ranges from 168 hp to 338 hp, with battery sizes from 57.7 kWh to 77 kWh and rated range from 380 km to 468 km.
For 2026, Toyota added the rugged Woodland SUV, switched all models to the North American Charging System (NACS) port for Tesla Supercharger access, and made the 14-inch Toyota Multimedia touchscreen standard. The XLE AWD gains Crawl Control and Multi-Terrain Select.

The XLE FWD suits urban and suburban commuters wanting low operating costs. With 380 km rated range and 168 hp, it handles daily driving effortlessly. If your daily round trip is under 150 km with home charging, the XLE FWD offers the best value.
The XLE AWD adds all-wheel drive, a 77-kWh battery, 338 hp, and 468 km rated range - ideal for families taking longer trips or needing winter traction. It includes Crawl Control and Multi-Terrain Select for light off-pavement use.
The Limited AWD targets buyers wanting premium materials and technology, building on the XLE AWD with upgraded interior finishes, ventilated front seats, and 436 km range.
The Woodland is Toyota's most rugged electric SUV. With 338 hp, 215 mm ground clearance, roof rails, and 3,500 lb (1,588 kg) towing capacity, it's built for adventure without sacrificing electric efficiency. It accelerates 0-100 km/h in 4.4 seconds with 452 km rated range.
The Woodland Premium adds JBL 9-speaker audio, panoramic fixed-glass roof, ventilated front seats, and front-seat radiant heating. Available with All-Terrain tires (reducing range to 418 km) for buyers prioritizing off-road grip.
The 2026 bZ uses three battery configurations:
All models feature the NACS port for Tesla Supercharger and NACS-compatible DC fast charger access. DC fast charging takes the battery from 10% to 80% in approximately 30 minutes under ideal conditions.
The bZ includes an 11-kW onboard AC charger for home charging, plus a dual-voltage 120V/240V charging cable. Battery pre-conditioning warms the battery for faster DC charging in cold weather - activate it manually or set navigation to a fast-charging station for automatic preconditioning (requires active Drive Connect trial or subscription).
Plug & Charge capability allows automatic vehicle identification and payment at selected charging networks (requires active Remote Connect trial or subscription).
Every 2026 bZ includes:
Woodland trims add roof rails and 18-inch wheels with black covers. The Woodland Premium includes JBL 9-speaker audio, panoramic fixed-glass roof, ventilated front seats, and front-seat radiant heating.
Toyota Safety Sense 3.0 is standard on all bZ models, using millimeter-wave radar and monocular camera to monitor driving conditions:
Additional features include Parking Support Brake System, Emergency Driving Stop System, eight airbags, and Toyota's Star Safety System.
The 14-inch Toyota Multimedia touchscreen supports wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, dual Bluetooth connectivity, and Toyota's Intelligent Assistant voice control ("Hey Toyota").
All bZ models include Toyota Connected Services trials:
The Toyota app lets you check charging status, start or stop charging remotely, schedule charging times, and locate nearby charging stations.
Cargo volume ranges from 1,900 litres (XLE, XLE AWD, Limited AWD) to 2,120 litres (Woodland trims) with rear seats folded. Woodland trims tow up to 3,500 lb (1,588 kg).
Range in winter: Expect roughly 20-30% less range in typical Ontario winter conditions (-5 °C to -10 °C). Battery pre-conditioning helps, but plan for more frequent charging stops on longer winter trips.
Home charging: With garage access to a 240V outlet, home charging is most convenient and economical. Without it, you'll rely on public Level 2 and DC fast chargers, adding cost and time.
Trim choice: For city driving with home charging, the XLE FWD offers best value. For longer trips or winter confidence, the XLE AWD's larger battery and all-wheel drive justify the upgrade. For adventure capability and towing, choose the Woodland.
NACS charging access: The NACS port provides Tesla Supercharger and NACS-compatible network access, expanding fast-charging options across Ontario.
The 2026 Toyota bZ lineup offers something for every electric SUV buyer, from efficient urban commuter to rugged adventure vehicle. The addition of Woodland trims, NACS charging, and standard 14-inch touchscreen make the bZ more capable and easier to live with than ever.
The bZ Woodland is now arriving at Toyota Dealers across Canada. If you're ready to explore the 2026 Toyota bZ in person, visit Whitby Toyota.
