Already a standout on the market, the Toyota GR86 is receiving a brand-new, limited edition model for 2024. Two major updates enhance the GR86 lineup this year: the introduction of a limited GR86 TRUENO Edition and a Performance Package featuring SACHS Dampers and Brembo Brakes.
Exclusive GR86 TRUENO Edition
The GR86 TRUENO Edition, limited to only 50 manual transmission units, presents a striking two-tone design in either black with Halo or Track Red. Distinctly marked with a TRUENO Edition badge and a unique number plate, this exclusive model stands out on the road, further accentuated by its black metallic 18-inch, 10-spoke aluminum alloy wheels.
Inside the TRUENO Edition, comfort and style come together in a beautifully appointed cabin. The sport seats are finished in Ultrasuede® and trimmed with red leather, matching the red-stitched shift boot and the TRUENO Edition logoed shift knob. The cockpit also features an 8-inch touchscreen display compatible with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, complemented by a premium eight-speaker audio system.
Performance Package
The GR86 TRUENO Edition comes standard with the GR86 Performance Package. This includes ZF SACHS Dampers and Brembo Brakes, tuned by TOYOTA GAZOO Racing, to enhance handling and ride comfort while ensuring consistent brake performance.
The high-pressure nitrogen and oil-filled SACHS Dampers offer vibration absorption across various speeds and promote firm steering, maximized ground contact, balanced road feedback, and enhanced ride comfort. The red-painted Brembo 4-piston front and 2-piston rear brake calipers, paired with 325 x 33 mm front rotors and 315 x 20 mm rear rotors, add to the GR86’s responsive driving dynamics.
Safety and Tech
In addition to the comprehensive safety features offered by Toyota's Star Safety System™, the manual transmission GR86 models include an Active Safety Suite. This system uses a stereo camera to monitor the road ahead, providing features such as Pre-Collision Braking, Adaptive Cruise Control, Lane Departure Warning, Sway Warning, Lead Vehicle Start Alert, and High Beam Assist.
Performance Specs
Despite its impressive tech and safety upgrades, the GR86 models stay true to their lightweight sports car origins. The manual transmission Base grade model weighs just 1,275 kg, while the automatic version is slightly heavier at 1,295 kg, making the GR86 one of the lightest sports cars available.
Powered by a naturally aspirated 2.4-litre FA-24 engine, the GR86 produces 228 hp and 184 lb.-ft. of torque, with peak torque arriving at 3,700 RPM. This leads to 0-to-100 km/h acceleration times ranging from 6.3 to 6.9 seconds, depending on the transmission type. The Torsen® limited-slip rear differential enhances traction during cornering, and the 6-speed manual transmission offers a Track mode and the ability to disable the Vehicle Stability Control (VSC) for those seeking a more thrilling ride.
In summary, the limited edition 2024 Toyota GR86 TRUENO combines modern engineering, exclusive features, and track-worthy performance, all while staying true to the model's lightweight sports car roots.
