Toyota presents a refreshed Camry for 2021

The Toyota Camry is undergoing a little rejuvenation for 2021, in order to remain the most interesting mid-size sedan on the market. The Camry's safety features will be enhanced, its styling redefined and its interior enriched. In addition, a new hybrid variant is being introduced.

For 2021, the Camry becomes the first model in the family to take advantage of the new Toyota Safety Sense 2.5+ suite of safety features. The latter still offers the same features as in the past, but with interesting new features such as a more sophisticated detection system. This means that cyclists can now be recognized in daylight, just like pedestrians at dusk. The improvements to the system will also allow the vehicle to recognize oncoming traffic at an intersection, as well as pedestrian traffic if a left turn is about to be made.

Adaptive Cruise Control is also enhanced with new features, as is Lane Keeping Assist. Finally, all 2021 Camry models will benefit from the Rear Seat Recall System.

In terms of styling, Toyota is making a few tweaks for the new year. The LE and XLE variants, for example, will feature larger air intakes and new 17- and 18-inch wheels, respectively. Among other things, these changes will allow these variants to stand out even more from the sportier SE and XSE models.

Throughout the line, some adjustments have also been made to the colours. Everywhere, Heliographic Blue replaces the light blue metallic. For the TRD versions, a new two-tone combination appears: Contour Ice and Midnight Black Metallic Roof. With the XSE models, you'll also be entitled to exclusives colours, either Ice Chill Pearl or Celestial Silver in combo with the Midnight Black Roof.

The XSE variant will also be available with the hybrid powertrain this year, making it the fourth offering of its kind across the lineup.

Finally, a mid-term review wouldn't be complete without a few notable changes to the interior. For example, each variant benefits from new trim, either woodgrain or a textured metallic finish, depending on the model. The seats are also new for 2021. In the XSE livery, they even feature a herringbone pattern, which enhances their appearance. Inside the XLE and XSE models with the 3.5-litre V6 engine, buyers can choose the ventilated function.

The dashboard features a new touch screen (seven or nine inches depending on the model). It's in the same style like the one found on the RAV4. With the TRD version emphasizing sportiness, the model offers heated mirrors and adds blind-spot and rear cross-traffic alert to the existing safety features.

While the Camry may no longer need a showcase, it continues to impress buyers in order to maintain its title as the best sedan on the market.
