Toyota Unveils GR86 Hakone Special Edition: A Nod to Japanese Heritage

Toyota has announced the return of the GR86 Hakone special edition for the 2025 model year, set to arrive at Canadian dealerships in Fall 2024. This limited-production model pays homage to Japan's Hakone Turnpike and offers unique styling elements alongside performance enhancements.

Distinctive Exterior and Interior Features

The 2025 GR86 Hakone special edition stands out with its Ridge Green exterior colour, complemented by 18-inch satin bronze-finished wheels and a colour-keyed duck-tail spoiler. Inside, the car features Ultrasuede sport seats with tan leather trim and stitching, a special edition shift knob with bronze accents, and a GR special edition plaque.

Performance Upgrades

All 2025 GR86 models, including the Hakone edition, benefit from retuned shock absorbers for improved handling dynamics. The throttle mapping has been revised to facilitate easier downshifts, while engine torque control enhances throttle response and linearity. The Electric Power Steering has also been fine-tuned for better road feel.

Powertrain and Chassis

The GR86 Hakone special edition is powered by a 2.4-litre, four-cylinder boxer engine producing 228 horsepower and 184 lb-ft of torque. It comes standard with a six-speed manual transmission in Canada. The chassis features a combination of high-strength steel, hot-stamped steel, and aluminum, with strategic use of structural adhesive for added rigidity.

Limited Availability

Toyota will produce only 860 units of the Hakone special edition for the North American market, with 30 manual transmission models allocated for Canada. Pricing details for the 2025 GR86 lineup, including the Hakone edition, will be announced later this year.

Safety and Technology

The GR86 comes equipped with Toyota's Active Safety Suite, which includes features like Pre-Collision Braking System and Lane Departure Warning. All models also feature Toyota's Star Safety System and seven airbags as standard. Connected Services trials, including Safety Connect and Remote Connect, are offered to enhance the ownership experience.

With its unique styling, performance upgrades, and limited availability, the 2025 Toyota GR86 Hakone special edition aims to offer Canadian enthusiasts a distinctive sports car experience when it arrives in showrooms next fall.
